Hyber-nation, 2017

Rina returns home to Kosova after 17 years of living in the United States, to attend her dad’s funeral. She fully intends to leave a few days later, but due to a civil unrest, she is stuck at the airport of Prishtina, she misses the funeral and unwillingly remains in Kosova. Rina eventually returns to the basement of her house, to shelter with her mother, Zita and grandmother Zylejha. This brings to the table all that’s been accumulated, and the glass is too filled to hold the water. The situation throws up the trauma caused by multiple occasions during which these women had to hide in the basement in the past, as the deep rift between Rina and her family (grandma, mother, father’s shadow) grows – her realization about how much of herself she is willing to invest in gluing the rift.

“Hyber-Nation” is the story of three generations of women faced with constant existential dilemmas, due to political instability, and how they are transformed through them. The development of the play was supported by INTENT New Theater and mentored by producer and writer Lucy Hannah. The play was stage-read at the Unicorn Theater in London as part of a showcase of plays written by Kosovar playwrights.
