“Martha Ate the Muffins” is a play that through an unorthodox relationship between a daughter and a father, dives into the history of consumerism and how this relates to the events that partook right after World War II.
Martha, a recluse who lives secluded in the woods, high up in the mountains which the internet can unfortunately reach, is suddenly visited by her father, a World War II veteran. This triggers their somewhat toxic relationship and unfolds many issues that now that so much time has passed, they tend to believe they are able to reflect on from different perspectives.
The play is filled with humor and sarcasm where the post-battlefield ruins are transformed into a playground. The winners dance and shout, while the losers decay in disarray.
I would ideally like to take this play to a writing residency, somewhere in the woods, with or without internet access, where it can further be developed and finalized.
